 1.Foreigners with H-1B visas including Indians don't need to leave the US for visa renewal - here's why: The US State Department has approved the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) review of a pilot program that will enable 20,000 holders of H-1B visas to renew their visas without having to leave the nation, Hindustan Times reported.The pilot has passed the last regulatory hurdle before publication after receiving the OIRA green light. It will begin in January with 20,000 foreign workers as its initial target.

2.Earthquake in China | Death toll at 116 in Gansu and Qinghai provinces: An overnight earthquake killed at least 116 people in a cold and mountainous region in northwestern China, the country’s state media reported Tuesday.Search and rescue operations were underway in Gansu and neighboring Qinghai provinces. The earthquake left more than 500 people injured, severely damaged houses and roads, and knocked out power and communication lines, according to the media reports.

3.India expected to contribute over 16% to global growth, says IMF: India is expected to contribute over 16 percent of global growth as economic reforms in key sectors like infrastructure and digitalisation have made India a "star performer" among countries, as per the International Monetary Fund (IMF), PTI reported. "What we have been observing for quite some time now is that India has been growing at a very robust rate. It's one of the star performers when it comes to real growth when you look at peer countries.

 4.IMF sees India’s economy grow at 6.3% in current fiscal year: India’s economy is projected to grow at 6.3% in the current fiscal year and the next, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said late Monday, supported by macroeconomic and financial stability.The country’s digital public infrastructure and a strong government infrastructure program will continue to sustain growth, the IMF said in its Article IV consultation report, which reviews a country’s current and medium-term economic outlook.“India has potential for even higher growth, with greater contributions from labor and human capital, if comprehensive reforms are implemented,” the IMF said.

5.New Covid variant: Govt issues advisory as JN.1 sub variant detected in India: A new coronavirus variant named JN.1 has been detected, causing concerns among doctors, experts authorities, and the public alike. The Covid-19 subvariant JN.1 is a descendant of BA.2.86. In the wake of the new Covid variant, India's active caseload surged to 1,828 on Monday. Besides one death was reported in Kerala, where the JN.1 subvariant of the coronavirus was recently detected. Henceforth, the central government has issued an advisory to the state governments urging them to make adequate health arrangements.

6.Modi vows to ‘make India the third largest economic superpower in the world’ in his third term: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday vowed to make India the third largest economy of the world in his third straight term.“When Kashi develops, U.P. develops, and when U.P. develops, India develops,” Mr. Modi said, while inaugurating and laying foundation stones of several development projects estimated to be worth over ₹19,000 crore, including projects related to the Railways, electricity, roads, drinking water supply, and ghats in the Ganga river. “It is Modi’s guarantee to make our country the third largest economic superpower in the third term,” the PM said, speaking at the Barki gram sabha in Sewapuri block.

7.Mumbai University awarded Class 1 Univ status.:The University of Mumbai (MU) has been granted Class 1 graded autonomy by the UGC, allowing it to start new courses and institutes without UGC permission. MU can also offer skill-based courses, establish research parks and incubation centres, and appoint foreign teachers. This status will facilitate the internationalisation of education and empower distance and open learning institutes.

8.Google Play Store to soon let users remotely uninstall apps on connected Android devices.: Google is rolling out a new feature for the Play Store which will enable users to remotely uninstall apps on the devices they have signed in. As per the latest Google System update changelog, the functionality is supported on all instances of Android.This means you can now easily remove apps from your watch, TV, Auto, Wear OS-powered smartwatches and other Android-powered devices from your smartphone. While installing apps on connected Android devices is pretty easy, uninstalling apps requires users to dig into the Play Store settings.
