1.Rishi Sunak toughens UK visa rules to cut immigration: 'Radical action':Under pressure from Tory MPs, the British government led by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Monday announced a raft of measures to drastically reduce migration levels. The UK home office said that the move would impact around 300,000 individuals who would no longer be eligible to enter the UK based on the new measures, which include raising the minimum salary the migrants must earn in a skilled job by a third.

2.Putin to visit Saudi Arabia, UAE in rare trip outside Russia:Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, according to people familiar with the plans, a rare trip abroad for the leader since his invasion of Ukraine. Putin plans to visit Abu Dhabi, UAE, this week, according to one person, who asked not to be identified due to the sensitivity of the topic. He also intends to travel to Saudi Arabia, according to another person.

3.WHO to hold emergency meeting on Gaza health situation on December 10:The World Health Organization's executive board will hold a rare emergency session on Dec. 10 to discuss the health crisis in Gaza and the West Bank, with the Palestinian envoy seeking more medical aid and access for foreign healthcare workers. The WHO confirmed on Monday it had received a request from 15 countries to hold the session, which will be convened by Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in consultation with the Qatari chair.

4.Indian Navy ranks to be renamed as per Indian culture: PM Modi during Navy Day celebrations:While congratulating the Indian Navy for appointing India's first woman commanding officer of the naval ship, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday pushed for a culture rejig in the ranks of Indian Navy. PM Modi announced that the ranks of the Navy personnel and officers will be renamed as per the Indian culture. During his Navy Day address, PM Modi revealed the plans of the Indian government, which is working on to increase the women's power in our defence forces.

5.Mizoram CM-elect Lalduhoma: Ex-cop quit IPS at Indira’s request, 1st MP disqualified for defection:In 1984, Lalduhoma, then a young IPS officer, found himself fielding an unusual request. Then prime minister of India, Indira Gandhi, wanted Lalduhoma, the former in-charge of her security detail, to quit the civil services and handle a major task — opening peace negotiations with Laldenga, head of the then insurgent outfit, the Mizo National Front (MNF). Lalduhoma heeded the request — he quit the civil service, which he had joined in 1977, joined the Congress, and flew to London, where Laldenga was stationed. He then managed to bring the militant leader back to India, paving the way for a historic peace accord that would bring down the curtains on the insurgency and bring the MNF to mainstream politics.

7.Rains, Thunderstorm In Chennai, Landfall Shortly:Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are on high alert with severe storm, Cyclone Michaung, expected to make landfall today. Both states have been hit by heavy rains and thunderstorms in the last 24 hours. Five people died in rain-related incidents in Chennai. Two people died of electrocution while one was killed after a tree fell on him in the upmarket Besant Nagar area of the city, police said. In Chennai, cars were swept away as floodwater flowed through the streets, while its airport, one of the busiest in India, shut operations until Tuesday morning.-

8.Man Refuses To Leave 80-Year-Old Mother Behind At Fire-Struck Home In Girgaon; Both Charred To Death:Mumbai: In a heartbreaking incident, a 60-year-old son refused to leave his ailing mother alone in a fire accident. As Dhiren Shah's building in Girgaon caught fire on Saturday due to a suspected short circuit, he was asked to escape the premises to save his life. However, noting that his mother was recently discharged and was bedridden, he refused and stayed back with her being ready to accept death. Both the mother (80) and the son lost their lives in the fire and their charred bodies were found.

9.Saudi wealth fund to buy 49% of luxury hotel chain Rocco Forte-Saudi Arabia's PIF sovereign wealth fund will buy a 49 percent stake in luxury hotel group Rocco Forte Hotels and help to support its expansion, the owner of of Britain's Balmoral hotel said on Monday. PIF's purchase gives the hotel group an enterprise value of around GBP 1.4 billion (USD 1.8 billion), one source close to the matter said on Monday, confirming a report in financial times.
