President of India Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to address the nation on the eve
of this historic occasion. The address will be broadcast from 7 pm on the
entire national network of Akashvani and telecast over all channels of
Doordarshan in Hindi followed by the English version, a Rashtrapati Bhawan

2.Bharat Ratna for Karpoori Thakur.: Karpoori Thakur, the Former Chief Minister of Bihar, was chosen for the country's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna yesterday, a day ahead of his birth anniversary. The announcement by the Centre was greeted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "I am delighted that the Government of India has decided to confer the Bharat Ratna on the beacon of social justice, the great Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Ji and that too at a time when we are marking his birth centenary," he posted on X.

U.S. officials to head to India this week, to discuss bilateral ties and Quad
dates.: Top U.S. diplomats will
travel to Delhi this week to discuss bilateral issues, energy cooperation and
are also expected to discuss possible dates for the Quad Summit with
U.S.-Australia-Japan-India leaders as well as shore up ties amidst speculation
of a ‘pause’ in the past few months. According to sources, U.S. Assistant
Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu will travel to
Delhi for the meetings, as well as to attend the U.S.-India Forum organised by
think tank Ananta Centre.

As French President Emmanuel
Macron lands in Jaipur Thursday afternoon, India is
rolling out the red carpet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his signature
style, joining him at a roadshow called the Shobha Yatra.During the Shobha
Yatra, Macron and Modi will travel from Jantar Mantar to Hawa Mahal 6 pm

refuses to halt Jarange-Patil’s march to Mumbai.: The Bombay high court on Wednesday refused to issue an order
preventing Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange-Patil from entering the
city on Republic Day when he has reportedly planned an indefinite hunger
strike. “Learned advocate general submitted that the state would follow the
legal position enunciated by the Supreme Court in the case of Amit Sahni
(Shaheen Bagh) vs the commissioner of police and others,” the court said and
added if the need arises the state will adopt necessary measures to avoid
breach of public peace and to maintain law and order.
7.Transporters
to strike on February 16 over BNS provisions on hit-and-run cases.: Eight unions of truck drivers and
transport workers have decided to support the industrial and rural strikes
called by the Central Trade Unions (CTUs) and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on
February 16. In a statement issued in Delhi on January 24, the unions said
their strike is to urge the Centre to withdraw the penal provisions in Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for
hit-and-run cases. The
unions had stopped working earlier this month over the same demand. Then, the
Centre assured them that sections 106(1) and (2), pertaining to hit-and-run
cases, would be implemented only after due consultations with their
representatives.

8.Red alert issued for cold wave till 28 January in 6 states; flights affected by dense fog in Delhi: IMD full forecast.: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday forecasted that very dense fog conditions are likely to continue to prevail over North India during next 4 days. The weather agency said that light rainfall or snowfall is likely over Western Himalayan Region from 25 to 30 January. The IMD issued Red alert for cold wave over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan on 25 January, followed by orange alert in these states till 28 January.

Arabia has said it will open a shop in Riyadh selling alcohol to a select band
of non-Muslim expats, the first to open in more than 70 years.:
The
clientele will be limited to diplomatic staff, who have for years imported
booze in sealed official packages known as diplomatic pouches.Saudi officials
said the shop would counter "the illicit trade of alcohol”.Prohibition has
been law since 1952, after one of King Abdulaziz's sons drunkenly shot dead a
British diplomat.
