1.Ex Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Meets NSA Ajit Doval At Hindon Airbase.- Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned today and fled Dhaka by a helicopter after thousands of protesters stormed her palace. Protestors broke through the gates of Sheikh Hasina's official residence, prompting her to flee the country by helicopter.Sheikh Hasina landed at the Hindon airbase near Ghaziabad and is on her way to London, diplomatic sources have said. She was received by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval at the Hindon airbase.

2.British PM Keir Starmer calls emergency meeting over ‘far-right thuggery’ on U.K. streets.- British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called an emergency COBRA meeting of senior ministers and police chiefs at 10 Downing Street in London on August 5 after a weekend of riots across several cities in the country, which he termed a “far-right thuggery” that will face the full force of the law.

3.US welcomes interim govt announcement in Bangladesh.- The US has welcomed the announcement of an interim government in Bangladesh, said that any transition should be based on democratic principles and rule of law, and declared that it now wanted to see a democratic order where the people of Bangladesh choose their own government.

4.Parliament Budget session Live updates: Govt. calls all-party meeting in on Bangladesh issue .- Urging the the government to reduce GST on health insurance policies, the Opposition will be holding a protest on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, in Parliament. On Monday, senior Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’ Brien raised the issue. Mr. O’ Brien, speaking during the Zero Hour in Rajya Sabha, referred to a letter written to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman by senior BJP leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari making a similar demand.

5.Bills to amend banking, oilfield laws likely in Parliament this week .-The government is likely to introduce three Bills in Parliament this week, including a bill to amend banking laws, another to amend the Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Act, and a third to provide for the representation of Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the Goa Assembly.According to the Rajya Sabha’s list of business for Monday, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri will introduce the Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Amendment Bill, 2024 in the House.

6.Sterling Holiday Resorts announced its results for Q1 FY25. The company recorded its highest-ever Q1 revenue of Rs 126 crore and maintained its EBITDA at 34%, in line with the industry average. The company has been profitable for 16 consecutive quarters.With the addition of two resorts in Dehradun and Udaipur during the quarter, Sterling’s portfolio crossed the milestone of 50 resorts. The addition of nine resorts since Q1 FY24 reiterates the company’s sustained delivery of its expansion strategy.

7.Travel operators will see revenue rise by 15–17% this fiscal.- Rising domestic tourism and an increasing propensity to travel overseas will expand the revenue of India’s tour and travel operators by a robust 15–17% this fiscal. Improving infrastructure, rising disposable incomes, a behavioural shift in travel patterns, and the government’s increasing focus on boosting domestic tourism will further support the sector’s revenue growth.

8.Ministry of Food Processing Industries promoting startups in food processing .-The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) had organised a Startup Conclave titled SUFALAM (Startup Forum for Aspiring Leaders and Mentors) from February 13-14, 2024, at New Delhi to promote startups in the food processing sector. The event had knowledge session, panel discussion, networking & pitching session along with exhibition showcasing novel products from the startups.
