Germany has accorded a special status to India, so that approvals for military purchases can be accelerated, German Ambassador Philipp Ackermann said on Wednesday, adding that the German seller is awaiting the Indian government to complete its decision making processes with regard to the P-75I submarine deal. The multi-billion dollar deal will top the agenda during this week’s visit to India by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and also over the weekend when Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is due to visit.

Greenhouse gas emissions of China and India, two of the top three emitters, grew by 5.2 per cent and 6.1 per cent respectively in the year 2023, a new UN report revealed on Thursday.It said the global emissions in 2023 was 1.3 per cent higher than the previous year.

PM Modi on Wednesday invited BRICS nations to adopt India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in their markets and welcomed steps for financial integration amongst the nations. UPI was introduced in Dubai on March 28 this year. This collaboration was facilitated through Dubai-headquartered Mashreq’s partnership with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) and is part of the government’s plan to take UPI outside India.

The Union Government has officially approved the appointment of Justice Sanjiv Khanna as the next Chief Justice of India (CJI). Justice Khanna, who currently serves as the first puisne judge at the Supreme Court, is set to assume the position on November 11, following the retirement of the incumbent CJI, DY Chandrachud.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday ( October 24, 2024) sought support from Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to develop new and integrated tourist destinations in the State.Mr. Sukhu, who on Thursday (October 24, 2024) met Mr. Shekhawat in Delhi, also urged the Minister to support the State under special central assistance schemes, according to a statement.
