 1.U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer arrived in Mumbai, early on Wednesday (October 8, 2025) morning, for a two-day visit, with a delegation of 125 people, including CEOs and representatives from British institutes, universities and industry groups. The visit comes months after India and the U.K. signed a trade deal during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s July visit to the European country. It also comes as both countries are navigating major geopolitical shifts, including their respective trading relationships with the U.S., under the administration of Donald Trump.

2.The state-of-the-art Navi Mumbai International Airport will be opened by Prime Minster Narendra Modi today. The airport is expected to boost trade and tourism for Mumbai, Pune and the Konkan area. PM Modi will undertake a walkthrough of the airport and inaugurate it around 3.30 pm. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.

3.Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday launched foreign currency settlement system in GIFT City, aiming to boost international trade, investment, and ease of doing business.Speaking at the Global Fintech Fest 2025, Sitharaman said, "Foreign currency settlement system to solve the problem of facilitating seamless transactions on real-time basis, enhance liquidity management, and ensuring compliance."

4.The University Grants Commission (UGC) has officially recognized 101 universities and 20 Category-1 institutions to offer Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes for the academic year 2025-26, with the session beginning in July -August 2025. In addition, 113 universities have been approved to provide online courses, while 13 institutions will offer specialized online learning (OL) programmes.
