1.On 11 July 2026, a tourist speedboat carrying 32 Indian nationals and four Vietnamese crew members capsized approximately 400 metres off Hon May Rut Ngoai, near Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam. Fifteen Indian tourists lost their lives, while 21 people were rescued. The deceased included ten from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh, and two from Kerala. The group was on an incentive tour organised by Lava Mobiles for its dealers and distributors.

2.The University of Mumbai (MU) plans to establish 12 new colleges offering skill-based and multidisciplinary programmes from the 2027-28 academic year. The proposal will be placed before the university Senate for approval at its meeting on July 22. The proposal has already been cleared by the university’s Management Council and forms part of MU’s five-year master plan (2024-29), which seeks to improve students’ employability by prioritising industry-oriented education over traditional degree programmes

3.Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma accompanied by Minister of Skill Development Mangal Prabhat Lodha inaugurated a one-day “Start-up Frontier 1.0” a startup exhibition and Conference at Y B Chavan Auditorium in Mumbai on Fri (10 July). The startup event was jointly organized by the Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skills University, Maharashtra State Innovation Society, and the iSpark Foundation.
