1.WASHINGTON: A 12-year-old environmental activist from Mumbai has been named as a 2021 International Young Eco-Hero in recognition of his efforts to solve tough environmental problems.Ayaan Shankta won the third place in the 8-14 age category for his project Conservation and Rehabilitation of Powai Lake, according to a media release issued on Wednesday.-Economic Times.

2.WASHINGTON: President Joe Biden on Thursday will outline new approaches to control the Covid-19 pandemic in the United States, which rages on despite the wide availability of vaccines.In a speech, Biden will focus on six areas, including new plans to get more people vaccinated, enhancing protection for those who already have had shots and keeping schools open, according to a White House official.-The Times of India

3.India on Wednesday told a conference of over 15 Foreign Ministers convened by the US and Germany that the use of Afghan soil to promote terrorism “in any manner by any country is unacceptable”. 6.In what comes as a significant boost to the country's naval power, India is all set to launch its first satellite and ballistic missile tracking ship Dhruv on Friday. The 10,000-tonne vessel will be commissioned from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh in the presence of senior officials from the Indian Navy, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and the National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO), among others.-hindustantimes.com

7.The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday announced that by-elections for seven vacant Rajya Sabha seats will be held on October 4.According to the notification issued by the poll panel, there are two seats vacant in Tamil Nadu and one each in West Bengal, Assam, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Puducherry.-Hindustantimes.com

8.The 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations that will begin from Friday will be muted in Mumbai after the city police banned a gathering of five or more people citing the Covid-19 pandemic and put in several other curbs to be strictly imposed as per government directions. According to a police statement, no processions would be allowed in Mumbai between September 10 to 19 and devotees would not be allowed to visit Ganesh pandals.-hindustantimes.com
