 THE World University Rankings 2023: US leads with 36 universities in top 100, followed by UK with 11. Germany, China have 8 and 7 respectively. Times Higher Education (THE) has announced World University Rankings (2024). The United States has the highest representation of 36 universities in top 100, of which seven are in the top ten list. The United Kingdom has the second highest – 11 varsities – in the top 100, including the number one ranked University of Oxford. International students in the UK have been hit by a severe housing crisis, with many forced to accept unsuitable living conditions amid rising rents and expensive university accommodation. The World Bank has called for an increase in tax collection from the major and vital sectors in Pakistan claiming that the tax collection is insufficient to meet its financial necessities, ARY News reported on Wednesday. Noting that Indians rank highly among business travellers to Russia, the Russian authorities are now drawing up plans to tap on this segment, especially in the wake of economic sanctions from the West post the war with Ukraine. The death toll in Sikkim flash floods has risen to 14 while more than 100 people are missing, the state government confirmed Thursday. 22 army personnel are also among the 102 missing people while 26 remain injured and are seeking treatment following the disaster, triggered by cloudburst over Lhonak Lake in north Sikkim.-hindustantimes.com

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced a new provision of ‘Special Category’ in the online Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) portal. The newly-launched provision aims at promoting gender equality and equal opportunities for women and transgender entrepreneurs in the food business sector. Under this provision, Licensing and Registering Authorities will process 'Special Category' applications in a balanced manner to maintain one-to-one ratio alongside regular applications, until there are no pending application in either category.-fnbnews.com

Quad countries call for end in violence in Ukraine, Gaza, and Myanmar .-The Quadrilateral partnership consisting of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States intends to expand the Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) into the Indian Ocean Region, the Foreign Ministers of the four member countries announced on Monday in Tokyo.
