Pakistan has formally applied for membership in the multinational forum BRICS, as reported by the Russian news agency TASS.Islamabad has filed the application to join the body and has sought Russia’s support, quoting Pakistan's envoy to Russia, Muhammad Khalid Jamali, the agency reported.Pakistan is looking forward to joining the group of developing nations under Russia’s presidency in 2024.

Efforts to rescue 41 workers trapped in an underground Uttarakhand tunnel since November 12 will take 12-14 hours more, Bhaskar Khulbe, the Special Officer deputed to the state's Tourism Department, was quoted by news agency PTI Thursday morning. Drilling had been paused briefly after the auger boring holes into the hillside hit a metal obstruction late last night. It resumed after the obstruction was cleared. An estimated 45 metres has been drilled, leaving around 13 metres more of debris to shift.

In view of rising air pollution in the city, the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), as part of the ₹2,450 crore redevelopment of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), has installed equipment to monitor air pollution levels before commencing the construction work for the station. These equipments have been put up in front of platforms 2 and 3 next to the main entrance of the world heritage station building. “We have placed the equipments for knowing the prevalent AQI level and noise level before the commencement of construction works at CSMT,” said a CR official.

According to a report in The Hindu Business Line, US-based Wyndham Hotels & Resorts plans to introduce its European brand Vienna House in India mid-next year.
