A powerful magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck the southern Philippines on Saturday, the US Geological Survey reported, followed by four major aftershocks that sent residents fleeing from coastal areas amid fears of a tsunami. The initial quake struck off the coast of the country at a depth of 32 kilometres (20 miles) at 10:37 pm local time (1437 GMT) about 21 kilometres northeast of Hinatuan municipality on Mindanao island, the USGS said.

5.India agrees to withdraw soldiers from Maldives, says President Muizzu:Indian government has agreed to withdraw its soldiers from the Maldives, the Indian Ocean archipelago's President Mohamed Muizzu said on Sunday. Muizzu won the presidential election in September, having campaigned to alter the Maldives's "India first" policy and promising removal of a small Indian military presence of some 75 personnel.

7.India to lead way in meeting climate targets, says environment secy:

India will proactively lead the way in achieving all its climate targets, said environment, forest and cimate change secretary Leena Nandan on Sunday. Speaking at a UNFCCC COP 28 side event in Dubai, Nandan highlighted India's success in decoupling emissions from economic growth. “India has continued to grow, it has also progressively decoupled emissions from economic growth, and this has resulted in achievement of 33% reduction in emission intensity of GDP in 2019 itself," she said.
