1.After Supreme Court Order, China Reiterates Position on Kashmir:A day after the Supreme Court of India validated the dilution of Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional autonomy, China reiterated its position that the issue had to be resolved as per UN Security Council resolutions and that there has to be a dialogue between the “parties concerned”. On Monday, the Supreme Court upheld the Indian government’s 2019 decision to ‘read down’ Article 370 of the constitution which removed Jammu and Kashmir’s autonomy. The Indian government had also bifurcated the state and turned the two new entities into union territories.

2.India at UNGA votes in favour of resolution demanding immediate ceasefire in Gaza:India voted in favour of the ceasefire resolution in the UNGA's emergency session on the Middle East on Tuesday (local time).As many as 153 nations, including India, voted in favour of the resolution, while 10, including US, Israel and Austria, voted against and 23 countries, including Argentina, Ukraine and Germany abstained from voting. The resolution demands an "immediate humanitarian ceasefire," the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and well as "ensuring humanitarian access.

3.With current service, visas can be issued in very short time to Indian citizens’: German envoy: Highlighting the visa services provided by Germany to Indian citizens, the country's Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann has said that the current service has resulted in the issuing of quick visas to Indian citizens. He said that visas that are now issued in a shorter span of time are much better than a year ago. While speaking to ANI, Ackermann said, "We have in the last couple of weeks and months improved the visa service as such, that basically, your waiting time for an appointment is between two days and five days."

4.Joe Biden, Expected To Be Republic Day Chief Guest, May Not Visit India In Jan.:US President Joe Biden is not expected to travel to India next month to grace the Republic Day celebrations as the Chief Guest, people familiar with the matter said today.With Biden understood to have not planned a trip to India in January, it is learnt that the summit of four-nation coalition Quad is also not taking place next month as expected earlier.In September, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti said Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited President Biden to be the Chief Guest for the Republic Day celebrations on January 26. However, there was no comment by India on the invitation.

5.COP28: Pact elusive amid deep divisions over fossil fuel phase-out: Climate change conferences are quite used to stalemates, especially in the final days, and a familiar one existed at the Dubai Expo Centre, the venue of COP28, on Tuesday, as the conference went into extra-time. But never has the division been so sharp, the gap seemingly so unbridgeable. On the issue of fossil fuel phase-out, almost every country has a strong opinion, with no meeting ground currently in sight. Yet, an agreement was being drafted, for all to agree on, because a COP has to have an outcome decision. A previous draft, that came Monday evening, had made everyone unhappy and was immediately rejected by many.

6. 74.1% of Indians unable to afford a healthy diet: FAO Report:The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations launched the Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition 2023: Statistics and Trends, a report on Tuesday which said 74.1% of Indians were unable to afford a healthy diet in 2021. In 2020, the percentage was 76.2. In Pakistan, the figure is 82.2% and in Bangladesh, 66.1% of the population faced difficulties in finding healthy food. Rising food costs, if not matched by rising income, will lead to more people unable to afford a healthy diet, the report warned.

7.Revised criminal code Bills: Life term, death for hate-crime murder, mob lynching; terror ambit widened: Enhancing the minimum punishment for mob lynching and hate-crime murder from seven years to life imprisonment and expanding the definition of terrorism, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday introduced revised versions of three criminal law Bills in Lok Sabha to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860; The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (originally enacted in 1898); and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872. The Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, 2023, the Bill that seeks to replace the IPC, now prescribes a punishment for mob lynching that extends from life imprisonment to death. In its earlier version, introduced in August, the Bill prescribed a punishment that extended from seven years to death.

8.Lok Sabha Passes Bills To Introduce Women's Reservation In Assemblies Of Jammu & Kashmir, Puducherry: The Lok Sabha on Tuesday (December 12) passed two bills which seek to provide 33% reservation for women in the assemblies of Jammu & Kashmir and PuducherryWhile the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill 2023 seeks to introduce women's reservation in the legislative assembly of Puducherry, the the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Second Amendment) Bill 2023 does the same with the assembly of J&K. 9.Mumbai: BMC To Take Action Against People Feeding Pigeons On Footpaths & Roads.:The BMC has taken various efforts to make Mumbai clean, beautiful, non-polluted, and healthy. It has decided to take action against pigeon feeders as pigeons are considered to spread respiratory illness and dirtiness in society. Now, people who feed pigeons illegally on roads and footpaths other than designated places will be penalized. The BMC is assigning this responsibility to Marshals, who may charge a penalty of ₹100 to ₹500 on pigeon feeders, according to a BMC officer.
