3.Defence Ministry signs ₹1,614.89 crore deal for 6 next-gen OPVs for Coast Guard:The Defence Ministry on December 20 signed a ₹1,614.89 crore contract with Mazagon Dockyard Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Mumbai for procurement of six next-generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).“Out of the six vessels being procured, four would replace the existing ageing OPVs and the other two would augment the ICG fleet,” the Ministry said in a statement. These modern and high-tech ships will play a critical role in enhancing surveillance, law enforcement, search and rescue, maritime pollution response, and other important capabilities including humanitarian assistance by the ICG, it stated.

4.Death For Lynching And Rape Of Minor: What's New In Latest Criminal Laws:The Indian Penal Code will be replaced by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as the government seeks to do away with the colonial-era criminal laws. Home Minister Amit Shah, presenting the bill in Lok Sabha, said the new laws would include the death penalty for crimes like mob lynching and rape of minors. The new law would also replace sedition with a new offence 'endangering unity'.

5.India Bans Anti-Cold Drug For Children Below 4 After Syrup Deaths Claim:The drugs regulator in India has banned the use of an anti-cold drug combination in children aged below four and ordered that drugs should be labelled accordingly, in the wake of the deaths of at least 141 children globally linked to cough syrups.The regulator said concerns raised about promotion of an unapproved anti-cold drug formulation in infants prompted a discussion and a resulting recommendation to not use the combination for that age group.

6.No need to panic, state fully prepared: Maharashtra Health minister on new Covid sub-strain:Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], December 21 (ANI): Amid rising Covid cases in the state attributed to the new sub-strain JN.1, Maharashtra Health Minister, Tanaji Sawant has advised people to not panic saying that the healthcare system of the state was fully prepared and geared to deal with any possible situation. However, he did confirm that one patient in the state has been detected with the new Covid sub-strain.

Quad countries call for end in violence in Ukraine, Gaza, and Myanmar .-The Quadrilateral partnership consisting of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States intends to expand the Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) into the Indian Ocean Region, the Foreign Ministers of the four member countries announced on Monday in Tokyo.
