1.India has invited France President Emmanuel Macron as chief guest for January 26 Republic Day celebrations, news agency ANI has reported citing sources. Notably, this is the 6th time a French leader will be the Chief guest at Republic Day celebrations in the national capital. Prior to Macron, former French Prime Minister Jacques Chirac was the Chief guest on India's Republic Day celebrations in 1976 and 1998, and former Presidents Valery Giscard d'Estaing, Nicolas Sarkozy, and Francois Hollande in the years 1980, 2008 and 2016 respectively.
2.India on Wednesday said it was “deeply concerned” at the
current Israel-Palestinian crisis, highlighting the spillover effect of the violence for
the West Asian region. In a speech delivered at the NAM Ministerial
Meeting on Palestine in the Ugandan capital Kampala, Minister of State for
External Affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh reiterated the Indian position on the
October 7, 2023 attack on Israel by Hamas as well as the subsequent
Israeli military campaign on Gaza. His speech, however, remained silent on the
issue of ceasefire in Gaza.
3.The developed west is watching India’s experiment to extensively use costly research equipment bought by government higher educational and research centres by any researcher located anywhere in the country, experts said. Mooted at the instance of the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, I-STEM (Indian Science, Technology, and Engineering facilities Map) was launched five years ago by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
4.Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new state-of-the-art Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) campus at Aerospace Park in Devanahalli, near Kempegowda International Airport.Built with an investment of Rs 1,600 crore, the 43-acre campus is Boeing’s largest such investment outside the US."Boeing’s new campus in India will become a cornerstone for partnership with the vibrant startup, private, and government ecosystem in India and will help develop next-generation products and services for the global aerospace and defense industry," said a Press Information Bureau (PIB) statement.

6.The state government
of Maharashtra has signed MoUs worth over ₹3.10 lakh crore ($42.3 billion) with
Indian and foreign companies at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The
agreements are expected to bring in investments worth over ₹3.53 lakh crore
($48 billion). Among the investors is Belgium-based brewing company AB InBev,
which will set up a unit in Maharashtra with an investment of ₹600 crore ($81.9
million). Adani Group has also announced plans to invest ₹50,000 crore ($6.8
billion) in the state over the next 10 years to set up a data centre powered by
renewable energy.

7.Adani
Group on Wednesday said it will invest ₹50,000
crore over the next 10 years to set up a 1 GW data centre in Maharashtra. The
apples-to-airport conglomerate will invest ₹624
billion in Maharashtra and Telangana as a part of its ₹7-trillion expenditure plan for the next decade, Reuters
reported.
Adani Enterprises Ltd, the flagship company of the
group, and the Maharashtra government signed a memorandum of understanding
(MoU) for setting up the 1 GW (gigawatt) hyperscale data infrastructure.
8.The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation Limited has informed that the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway, popularly known as the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will remain closed on 18 January, Thursday for at least six hours. The authorities informed that the expressway will be closed at the Km 07.560, Chikhale Rail Over Bridge. According to official statement, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will remain closed due to ongoing construction of the Panvel-Karjat double-track suburban rail corridor. It is likely that the vehicles heading to Mumbai from Pune will face disruption due to the construction work.
