 1.Maldives, China sign 20 agreements after Muizzu-Xi meeting amid diplomatic row with India.: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday held in-depth talks with his Maldivian counterpart Mohamed Muizzu following which the two countries signed 20 "key" agreements, including one on tourism cooperation, and announced the elevation of their bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.Mr. Muizzu said he was honoured to pay his first state visit to China and become the first foreign head of state that China has hosted this year, fully demonstrating the great importance both sides attach to the development of bilateral relations.

2.India a growth engine: PM to world, biz leaders.: The world perceives India as an important pillar of stability, a global growth engine, the voice of the Global South and a friend who can be trusted, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday as he addressed world and business leaders while inaugurating the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in Gandhinagar. The 10th edition of the summit, aimed at fostering investments, business collaborations and strategic partnerships, was attended by the United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Mozambique President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos Horta, Czech Republic Prime Minister Petr Fiala, and heads of top Indian and foreign companies. The theme for this year’s event is “Gateway to the Future”.

3.Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Meets UK PM Rishi Sunak In London.: nion Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called on UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in London on Wednesday.The Defence Minister is currently on an official visit to Great Britain. The visit marks the first visit by a sitting Indian Defence Minister to the UK in more than 20 years.Earlier in the day, Defence Minister Singh and his British counterpart Grant Shapps attended the India-UK Defence Industry CEOs Roundtable at Trinity House in London.

4.India ranks at THIS position in world's most powerful passport 2024 list.: Indian passport ranked 80th spot in the world's most powerful passport list for 2024, with citizens allowed to travel to 62 countries without a visa. The country shares its rank with Uzbekistan, while the neighboring nation Pakistan is positioned at 101 spot. Singapore and Japan have boasted the world’s most powerful travel documents for the last five years, granting their citizens access to more countries without a prior visa than anyone else.

5.PM to inaugurate India’s longest sea bridge.: Sanjay Dutt, managing director of Tata Realty & Infrastructure, is looking forward to Friday (tomorrow) when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the 21.8-km Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), which will connect Sewri in South Mumbai to Chirle near Navi Mumbai. “I am really looking forward to drive on it in a pollution-free environment when I travel to other side of the city,” Dutt says about the project that will see Mumbai taking another giant step towards better road connectivity. Besides lane driving and wider roads, absence of traffic jams should be the icing on the cake, Dutt adds.

6.Reliance Industries set to commission energy complex this year.:Reliance Industries is preparing to commission the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex, a 5,000-acre manufacturing facility for renewable energy-related products, in Jamnagar in the second half of 2024, its chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani said on Wednesday. Addressing the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, the western state’s flagship investment conclave, in Gandhinagar, Ambani said that along with generating a large number of jobs, the giga complex will also help Gujarat become a major exporter of green products.

7.MCZMA passes Salman Khan’s proposal for hotel at Carter Road.: The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) has cleared a proposal for the construction of a hotel by Salma Khan, mother of actor Salman Khan. The proposal was passed in a meeting on December 15, 2023, of which the minutes were uploaded late on Wednesday. According to the minutes, the hotel will be constructed by demolishing a deserted under-construction eight-storey building at Carter Road in Bandra West on a 990 square-metre plot. The hotel will have an uninterrupted sea view.

10.Hospitality sector gets its mojo back after Covid lull as jobs zoom 271%.:

Revenge spending, as some have termed it, in the tourism sector after the Covid-19 pandemic has had a trigger effect on hospitality hiring with entry-level jobs seeing the sharpest surge in the last two years, TOI report said.Apprentice & trainee hires have seen a rise of 54 per cent CAGR in the last two years, as per TeamLease. Hiring in the hospitality sector rose by around 271 per cent in the same period, the report said.
