Indian Territory": US On China's Claim.-The United States recognises Arunachal Pradesh
as Indian territory and strongly opposes any attempts made to advance
territorial claims across the Line of Actual Control, an official spokesperson
has said, days after the Chinese military reiterated its claim over the state
following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit there.Earlier this week, Chinese
Defence Ministry spokesman Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang said that the southern
part of Xizang (the Chinese name for Tibet) is an inherent part of China's
territory, and Beijing "never acknowledges and firmly opposes" the
"so-called Arunachal Pradesh illegally established by India".
New
Zealand GDP shrinks 0.3%, entering second recession in a row, yield on key bond
drops 8 basis points.-New Zealand’s economy unexpectedly contracted in
the final three months of last year, confirming a recession and sending the
currency initially lower as traders boosted bets on interest-rate cuts. Gross
domestic product dropped 0.1% in the fourth quarter after declining 0.3% in the
prior three months, government data showed Thursday in Wellington. Economists had expected 0.1% growth.
GDP shrank 0.3% from the year-earlier period, worse than estimates of nil
growth.

Finland Is World's Happiest Country For 7th Time Straight.-India was ranked 126th out of 143 nations in a global happiness index released on Wednesday which noted that older age is associated with higher life satisfaction in the world's most populous country.Finland emerged as the happiest country in the world, topping the World Happiness Report 2024, the seventh successive year that the country has occupied the top spot on the list.The other of the top 10 countries are Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Israel, Netherlands, Norway, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Australia.

India now more unequal than in Raj era'- India has now become more unequal in terms of wealth concentration than the British colonial period as income and wealth of the top 1% of the country’s population have hit historical highs, a report by World Inequality Lab shows. The top 1% of the population controlled 40.1% of the national wealth in 2022-23, while at the time of independence it was less than 15%. The share of these top 1% of the population in the national income jumped to 22.6% during the financial year 2022.-
