1.Federal
Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, arrived at the Sardar
Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport early on Monday (January 12, 2026)
morning. He is on an official visit to India from January 12-13 at the
invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi will meet
Friedrich Merz today in Ahmedabad. This will be Mr. Merz’s first official visit
to India.
2.US
President Donald Trump has said that Iran's leadership, led by Supreme Leader
Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei, had called him seeking "to negotiate"
after his threats of military action amid mass anti-government protests in the
Islamic Republic. The leaders of
Iran called yesterday," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on
Sunday, adding that "a meeting is being set up... They want to
negotiate."
3.The Indian Space Research Organisation
(ISRO) on Sunday commenced the countdown for the launch of a rocket that is set
to place an earth observation satellite along with 13 others into to the blue
planet's orbit. The 22.5-hour countdown which
began at 12.48 pm and will lead to the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)-C62 rocket launch, will mark the
national space agency's first launch of this year.
4.Goa continues to consolidate its position as one of India’s
leading tourism destinations, with tourist arrivals showing a strong and
sustained recovery post-pandemic and steady growth across domestic and
international segments. In 2017, the state received 68,95,234 domestic tourists and 8,90,459
foreign tourists, This upward trend continued in 2023 and 2024, with total
arrivals reaching 86,28,162 and 1,04,09,196 respectively. As per 2025 data, Goa
recorded 1,02,84,608 domestic tourists and 5,17,802 foreign tourists,
aggregating to 1,08,02,410 total arrivals.
