3.The Supreme Court today observed that there was a need for a fair and independent investigation into the allegations of injuries to the students and police officials during the student protests which took place across the country last week. The Court hinted that it might constitute a Special Investigation Team headed by a former Supreme Court Judge for the investigation, and sought the responses of the Union, Delhi NCT and the States of Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Kerala.

4.Seven more deaths pushed the toll in the Assam floods to 75 on Tuesday, though the number of affected population came down to 3.32 lakh across seven districts, an official bulletin said.All the fatalities were reported from Nazira revenue circle of Sivasagar district, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said.Seven districts – Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup Metropolitan are still reeling under the deluge, affecting 21 revenue circles and 622 villages, it said.
